There’s no denying that Windows Phones have a large screen – but not as large as a Windows PC monitor though. It’s also true that Windows Phones have a handy keyboard – but not as handy or as easy to use as a PC’s keyboard. Take these factors into consideration and you arrive to the following conclusion: it’s easier and more convenient to manage a Windows Phone from a Windows PC. You can do precisely that with the appropriately named Windows Phone Device Manager. This is a tool that can be used to manage apps, set up sync, set ringtones, view available storage space, and more.

The Windows Phone Device Manager installation process, which is presented in the Quick Look video that accompanies this article, is a simple enough matter: download an installer, run it, follow a setup wizard’s instructions. But before you jump straight to installing Windows Phone Device Manager, take a look at these requirements: Windows Phone SDK 7.1, Zune 4.8 or newer (Zune WMDU optional), .Net Framework 4.0, registered/unlocked Windows Phone 7 device, Windows operating system (32 or 64-bit version).

The nice thing about Windows Phone Device Manager’s interface is that it is good looking and that it clearly presents all the functionality the application has to offer: manage apps (view, install, uninstall apps); view data stored on your phone, copy files from or to your phone; sync files, folders, and favorites; set ringtones; organize and sync your music; view detailed info about your phone; view total and available disk space; send SMS, email, note, clipboard; open weblink on phone; capture phone screen, back up/restore phone; reboot phone.

Windows Phone Device Manager is free to use, but please note that unregistered users do not get support. You can get a registration key by making a donation.

With your handy PC keyboard and from the comfort of your large monitor you can manage the apps on your Windows Phone, copy files from your PC to your phone, sync files between your PC and phone, set ringtones on your phone, and much more.

Pros

A standard installation procedure must be completed to get Windows Phone Device Manager up and running. The interface is good looking, easy to navigate, and clearly presents the functionality this application has to offer. You can do a lot with Windows Phone Device Manager: manage apps, view and copy files, sync files, send SMS, capture phone screen, and more. Windows Phone Device Manager is free software.

Cons

Nag screen.
